Massage works to address the soft tissue structures of the body, such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments, by breaking up tension and knots to aid in circulation. At Back To Natural Chiropractic, a hands-on technique by licensed massage therapists is used to knead these soft tissue structures, which in turn relieves pain and tension and allows for relaxation.

Massage Therapy Q & A

Who Can Benefit from Massage Therapy?

Anyone who has pain or soreness in the muscles may benefit from massage therapy. It can be used to treat pain, soreness, tension and knots in almost any muscle. Because it is a non-invasive procedure and there are several massage techniques, treatment can often be adapted around other medical considerations. Some patients use massage therapy to treat specific one-time ailments; while others have regular sessions to address ongoing stress and tension.

How Does Massage Therapy Work?

Massage therapy is a hands-on approach to working out soreness and tension in soft tissue. After assessing a patient’s needs, the licensed massage therapist (LMT) carefully kneads the strained muscles using techniques they learned while going through their formal education. The kneading helps the muscle tissue relax, which in turn reduces pain and tension. The massage increases the flow of blood and lymph circulation. It also offers relaxation and normalization of the soft tissues. Patients often notice results immediately after, and even sometimes during, a massage therapy session.

What Does a Typical Massage Therapy Appointment Entail?

A massage therapy appointment is about as long as any other treatment that is administered at a doctor’s office. After arriving and getting checked in, the LMT will review the precise symptoms and go over any pertinent details. Patients are, of course, welcome to ask questions. Once the preliminaries have been taken care of, the LMT will begin massaging the afflicted area. They’ll slowly work out the knots and tension, and patients can often feel the progress being made. At the end of the appointment, the LMT will confirm that the massage was effective in achieving the desired goals of pain or stress reduction. Patients are usually welcome to return to school, work or home immediately following the appointment, as there is not an extended recovery period.
